Hatchet Piece is an electroacoustic work written in 1998 and 1999 together with Aidan Dysart. It features text by John Waters from his essay Hatchet Piece: 101 Things I hate. The speaker is one Erich Kiser, our friend during the summer of 1998. Erich was a New Zealander famous for drinking and raising hell. Among the unconfirmed claims he made about himself were that he played rugby for the New Zealand All Blacks, he had citizenship in South Africa, New Zealand and Japan, he had hiked with Jon Krakauer, he did grunt climbing at Mount Everest, and the list goes on. For the day of recording (also the day of the World Cup final between France and Brazil), Erich drank a fifth of Jack Daniels and had a went a little crazy in the electronic music studio.
